• Monday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 17 will be considered emergency closures (like a snow day). During this time, educators will finalize e-learning plans. A communication with specific directions and expectations for remote learning will be distributed by the close of business on Tuesday, March 17.

• Please complete the Remote Learning Device Survey. We are particularly interested in:

  • support needed in households without access to internet or devices

  • where multiple people will need to share devices

  • if your family does not use or have screens (particularly Toddler and Early Childhood families)

• Chiaravalle will implement three days of its remote learning plan from Wednesday, March 18 through Friday, March 20.

• Remote learning will not be implemented during spring break (March 23–27).

• Chiaravalle is planning for all scenarios, which includes extending Remote Learning after spring break. We will continue to monitor health and safety recommendations to determine when we will physically re-open the school.

In alignment with Governor Pritzker's Stay-At-Home Order, Chiaravalle's facilities will remain closed until at least April 7. Remote Learning, which began Wednesday, March 18, will continue after spring break, resuming Monday, March 30th.

We continue to plan for all scenarios, which includes potentially extending Remote Learning beyond the Governor's directive. We will continue to monitor health and safety recommendations to determine when we will physically re-open the school and update you as soon as those plans have been determined.

The building will remain closed to families and visitors during this time in order to maintain the highest degrees of cleanliness. If your child left something in their classroom that is needed to complete specific work, please contact their teacher to determine an alternative resource or plan. If it is a personal belonging, they will be able to retrieve it once the school has re-opened.

Unfortunately, no. As you know, Chiaravalle made its decision to close based on CDC advisories that social distancing is a significant way to decrease the spread of COVID-19. We know that this can be a challenge to working families who still need to address child care during closure, but we cannot facilitate or arrange child care for families during this global pandemic. It is also our understanding that in this unprecedented situation, child care centers are also moving toward temporary closure and/or not admitting new children to their communities.

Chiaravalle will roll out the full plan for remote learning on Tuesday, March 17th. Roll-out will include a welcome letter from your teachers and a link to a portal page for your child’s program or homeroom.

In all program levels, teachers will present a schedule and assignments and/or recommendations for specific works or activities to complete during the day. Depending on program level, group and/or individualized check-ins with teachers will be scheduled on a daily basis.

Although specific structure for remote learning will depend on your child's age and program level, please know that students will not be "on screens" for the full day. Off-screen activities, assignments, and recommended time for movement are built into schedules at every level.

While Chiaravalle has never implemented a remote learning plan, our strategy has been informed by best practices and experiences of independent peer schools that have already closed due to COVID-19 or other emergencies. Our goal is to provide students with activity, engagement, support and structure that is on par with in-person learning. We appreciate your patience as there are many things still being finalized, and there may be learning moments and adjustments along the way. 

Chiaravalle will be hosting program level or homeroom landing pages in the My Chiaravalle section of the website. Interactive sessions will use Google Meet, which is accessible by Chromebook, laptop, or desktop computer via Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and Edge browsers and via iPad using the Google Meet app. Meet uses both the microphone and built-in web camera or external USB camera on your device. 

Complete instructions will be included with the Remote Learning rollout.

Remote learning is new to Chiaravalle and remote learning at this scale is also new for our country’s technology platforms. We know that things might be bumpy and ask for your patience as we explore this new opportunity for learning.

Here’s a few tips on writing an IT ticket:

• Write a clear subject line. A support ticket subject line should set expectations, and if possible, enable the helpdesk agent to glance at the subject line and immediately know the issue (without being too wordy).

• Provide Baseline Technical Details. Include the device being used, operating system and version, browser type, and URL where the error occurred. 

• Include the time the error happened. 

• Share a Screenshot or the Exact Text of the Error Message.
