Student Initiatives

Running a bake sale. Collecting cans for the food shelter. Soliciting pennies for disaster victims. Collecting used backpacks.

Fundraising for charity and community service drives may be initiated by Chiaravalle Elementary and Middle School students in conjunction with their study of a particular subject or as part of their social justice curriculum. These student efforts are separate from fundraisers that support the operating budget of the school.

Clubs and organizations that hold meetings at Chiaravalle but are not part of the school [e.g., Girl Scouts] may apply to the Associate Director of Development for permission to hold a limited fundraiser in exchange for doing service hours at the school.

Upper Elementary student Morgan Pierce loves Drama! Chiaravalle teachers are attuned to foster opportunities for a student to follow their interests, so when Morgan wanted to hold a bake sale to support the theatre she loves, she worked with her teachers and administrative staff to vet the details.

Morgan organized friends to help, managed the logistics, promoted her event, and held a bake sale on Friday, January 20. Initially, she hoped to hold it on the playground...but the horrible weather that day persuaded her to relocated indoors. Elementary and Middle School Drama Specialist Mary Beth Burns expressed her surprise and gratitude when on Monday morning, Morgan presented her a lock box filled with $82.00 in cash and a handful of i.o.u.'s for $18.00.
