Annual Guest Lecture by Steven Hughes, PhD, LP, ABPdN
Posted 2.1.10
Nearly 150 people from sponsor schools Chiaravalle and Rogers Park, as well as other Montessori schools as far away as Beverly and Council Oak on the south side and Geneva in the western suburbs gathered in a warm auditorium on a cold night to hear Dr. Hughes' presentation "Good At Doing Things —  Montessori Education and Higher Order Cognitive Functions.
A Chiaravalle faculty member shared, "The lecture was inspiring to say the least. What I took from it was the message that learning takes place with engaged experiments with the environment. I also was glad to hear that we learn most from mistakes/errors that are investigated as to why they are errors. It is not about the outcome (i.e. a chicken coop) but about the process (engaged experiments with environment) that prepares children for adulthood."
Another mentioned, "I thought he was great — a wonderful combination of important, fascinating information, and heart and good humor."
If you were unable to join us, you can see the video presentation. Dr. Hughes generously shares his sides and audio from the evening. Please click the link below. [The entire presentation runs approx. 96 minutes--but it's worth it!]
