Lunch is always a favorite for Chiaravalle Kindergartners. During lunch, we try to instill the idea of grace and courtesy through the proper use of utensils and good manners at the table. Kindergartners are still learning the art of “fine dining”.
We ask parents to help us keep Chiaravalle “green” by packing your child’s lunch in reusable and/or recyclable containers rather than plastic bags.
Please send your child with a CLOTH napkin and cloth or vinyl placement, which will be sent home every day. You can purchase inexpensive and fairly small napkins and placemats at Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc. The smaller the better in order to fit on our small tables. Two other children will be sharing the same table. It makes sense, if possible, to have 5 sets and send a clean set daily. Please put his/her name on each item with a permanent marker.
Please send your child with reusable utensils: fork, spoon, and knife and a small dinner plate. If you are sending soup, please send a bowl. The soup should be brought in a thermos and then transferred to a bowl at lunch.
Milk will be served from a pitcher into a glass. The recommended USDA portion for this age is 6 oz. Milk for the year is purchased in the Summer Registration process.
Water is also available. If your child plans to bring their own drink, we would appreciate a drink that can be poured into a glass rather than one in a box or envelope.
An ideal sample lunch might include: a sandwich; 2-3 pieces of fruit (whole apples are often discarded after 2 or 3 bites); 2-3 small slices of celery or another favorite vegetable; 5 baked chips; 6 oz. non-sugared drink. Please do not send sweet desserts or candy.
WHEN PLANNING LUNCH, PLEASE REMEMBER THAT CHIARAVALLE MONTESSORI SCHOOL EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM IS PEANUT AND TREE NUT FREE.
